Epstein acquired a smaller island - the Little St James - originally in 1998, but subsequently obtained the more expansive adjacent island in 2016 for around $22.5 million.
This visual evidence suggest he had formulated ambitious plans to develop the substantial island by constructing living quarters, an amphitheatre, an submerged workspace and a reservoir.
