Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
